Balancing AR Play with Online Play

Offline
#11 Robyn Oakwise
Hi everyone,

For my soap box I would ask that before any new things are added, address the current issues.

Combat is not working correctly. Until that occurs, adding anything new before fixing it might introduce a whole new set of issues or mask the previous ones.

I only engage monsters. Right now, I can finish about 10% of combats I engage in. I either lose right off, I know there is a thread on that and is a big priority, or all of a sudden, none of my spells are able to be cast.

I love the ideas as I have recently attempted PvP and a few players are taking advantage of some of the reported broken spells. This is a huge turn off so I just don't PvP either.

What is left? Herb gathering, I am capped at 50, and alchemy. I have yet to see a lavender sprig though oddly enough. While at this time it is fun, there is no community interaction or trade right now other than pvp so I brew and sell my surplus.

Having said that, please for the love of Patricia give us a toggle to turn off the duel spam?! I ask as on occasion, I get as many as 10+ icons in my circle and can not select anything other than duel requests.

Ok, off my soap box... so I can burn my Tonic before bed. Keep plugging away guys. We would not be so passionate if we didn't love your work. ?

Happy adventuring,
Robyn

I just wanted to add that a quick/easy fix to AR vs PvP balancing would be to get experience not only from casting spells but from defeating monsters too. Every higher tier giving more exp thant the previous one. This way would be more appealing to go around and fight those mobs

XP from Monsters would definitely help even things out.

Plus, you know the Duelists want to try out their skills on some monsters too...

As it stands right now, there really is no reason for a fight to go past round 4-5, anything after that doesn't earn you xp, as you can only cast 5 spells of each skill before you cap XP for the fight. Even then you still get the same amount of XP if you win or lose after that point, so something to make it worth while to do the monster battles besides just to be able to cast spells.

Good point! At this point, you get the same XP from a lesser monster by playing with it long enough to get your max XP as you do for fighting a more powerful monster.

"Oh, basely done!" he cried. "I had hoped for better of thee!"

I would say that AR vs Online Balance is an existing issue, even if it's not a specific bug, and that we aren't just play-testing for bugs, but for playability.

However, everything you've listed here I completely agree with...an on/off toggle for Dueling is at the top of my list for fixes...

I just want out new Open Beta Testers to have a great experience and be as blown away as possible.

As promised in plans to near future, devs are working on bugs. And that means big bad battle bugs. They know about them. Let's hope they will code as fast and as good as possible. I hate random loses too.

Hi guys,

I've read this thread and found some interesting ideas. My two cents in improving PvE experience is adding more complex equipment system, which I've described in numerous threads some time ago (diverse tiers, uber tiers, fully craftable, possibility to "mage" stats...). Then custom PoI's, as mentioned in OP.

I believe dungeon/party system will help alot with the AR element of Maguss when it gonna be implemented. That applies to Quests aswell (current "daily quests" were labeled as "tasks" by devs themselves and have no connection to the Questing system).

These two combined together could sprout Achievements - which would be hard to get, not the "basic" ones every game has.

I also think that adding leaderboards for separate Skills/Spells Experience (keep the exp gain going after max level), Monsters killed, Herbs gathered, Items dropped etc. could be interesting for non-PvPers.

HOWEVER

Currently, Maguss is in Alpha stage of development. Sure, it's called Beta and we r supposed to have Open Beta pretty soon, but that doesn't change the fact that the game is HIGHLY UNSTABLE IN ITS CORE MECHANICS.

This needs to be fixed first.

I think that PvE attractiveness could be fixed just by shifting numbers - balancing the game - right now, with the content we got atm.

But devs needs to focus on how to stop random losses, fixing couple of spell mechanics, fixing CPU/GPU usage...the important problems at this stage of development.

Be sure to archive all of these ideas tho. These will come very handy in couple of months Smile

Cheers,
Lili

Yes, I'm absolutely not saying that the Devs should divert their attention from fixing the existing core system bugs. That absolutely needs to be fixed by the time we go Open Beta.

This is more me just using the time while we are waiting to offer some (hopefully) constructive suggestions.

Agree completely…however, the mods are already well aware of these bugs. We’ve been reporting them for the last several months, and they are known bugs. Plus, new players are constantly reporting them, so I don’t feel like I would add anything to the equation by reporting them again.

But yes, the core system problems need to be fixed first, and definitely before Open Beta.

However, I think, or at least hope, that our brainstorming will be of benefit to the developers down the road. Plus, it keeps us (or me) entertained and focuses by Maguss obsession in a (hopefully) healthy direction.

BTW- Going very old school mentioning your Future of Crafting thread, and I DO hope that other forms of Crafting besides Brewing are eventually introduced, as well as a broader range and depth of equipment. Also, it’s been a long time since we heard anything about the original ideas for quests.

The addition of multiplayer/party mechanics will DEFINITELY be the biggest thing this game sees in terms of both PVE and community. However, we haven’t heard anything about it in months, and it seems pretty far off right now. Having a chat, friends list and friend finder would be a HUGE stop gap measure, and head us in that direction.

Right now, I can’t even tell that Triple Slash spammer what a douche he’s being…

Also, I thought we were still in Alpha…has it progressed to Beta?
