Thank you Quantum for taking this over for us.

@Dhyde We do not have any real forum admin, here. I set it up just so that we can have a place for our community to get in touch with our team and communicate between each other. The theme is built by 3rd party with my adjustments to colors, positions of some stuff such as header, SSO etc. However I do now have insights to PHP and therefore I can't fix it.

We could have installed Tapatalk but there are few reasons why we won't:
1. It's currently one of the lowest priorities on our todo list.
2. It won't take 10 minutes as we have to back up everything and in case something won't work out well, risk downtimes and then restore it.
3. I have no clue how the theme will work with Tapatalk, as it may not be designed for it. And in case Tapatalk will put it's own theme on the mobile version of the forum, it won't be any more our style.

Simply all this hassle is not yet worth it. I really hope you can understand that!

Cheers

Oh, the theme doesn't matter for Tapatalk. It uses a native mobile app where the UI is uniform throughout all the forums on there. But the other reasons apply of course.
May the force be equal to mass times acceleration.

Zatokar: I run several forums, tapatalk has nothing at all to do with your current theme, it's strictly a backend "portal" or gateway for their reader client.

The 10 minutes consists of "start backup" go to site, sign up, download plugin for mybb, (about 2-3 minutes total unless your MySQL DB is massively bloated, I've yet to have one take more than 2 minutes. File backup...same deal, unless mybb is exponentially larger than a SMF install, or, a phpnuke with phpbb install when the db backup backup finishes the file backup should be done too, then, log into the admin page, install the tapatalk plugin/module/whatever mybb calls it, copy the ID it gives you, give it to tapatalk, then wait a couple minutes for them to make it go live.

It's REALLY simple, as a rule, it's something I do on any forum I'm setting up, just in case the user base wants to use it...

If you're too busy, I get it, but, at least acknowledge that the tapatalk suggestion was made in lieu of having to chase down the JavaScript that's causing it to act strange (I've isolated it to being something to do with how it makes a "floating quick reply box"). The keyboard glitching, the scrolling glitch, and, I've noted the "newest post" links don't work to take you to the new posts as they should, they just take you to the newest page.

I totally understand that you're scrambling to get the closed alpha ready for supporter consumption, but remember, that isn't publicly accessible yet, this is, and growing the community and building the hype here is a great way to spread awareness of the game, and you want it as smooth as possible too...

Not trying to tell you what to do, just offering experience and insight.

In essence, tapatalk is a hybrid RSS reader/reply utility....

Hate to be a naysayer, but from the point of view of my gaming guild forum, Tapatalk has been annoying.
Installed it due to one guild member request. A few of us used it for awhile. Then they changed the layout of the mobile app and made it more frustrating to use and everyone on the guild forum stopped using it. And I keep getting emails often that the plugin is out of date now. (Though it still works fine.) One of these days I need to get around to figuring out how to uninstall it, though.

It's great if you have someone who likes to tweak forums and constantly keep everything up to date. I also never felt like it was a security risk or anything like that. But for me personally, these days I just like to set something up once so I don't have to worry about any more hassle.

tapatalk as an app has become less "user friendly" more "ooh facebook"ish in the last several iterations, but, its benefit is that you constantly are on top of all of your posts on all of the forums that you may be on (and for me, that's several)

I wish Forum Runner hadn't shut down, because that's truly the one I prefer, but, since they stopped development, no new forums are added and updates to those forums may break compatibility, but, the nice thing was, that unlike tapatalk, you didn't sign up with forum runner to have your board work with them (as I understood) you just pointed it at the forum, logged in, and boom, it was there...after the forum admin had installed the appropriate plugin and enabled it of course.

Yeah, that's a good way to look at how the mobile Tapatalk app has declined.  It's like they're trying to hide forum structure now.  I don't want my forums to look like Twitter or Facebook, the whole advantage traditional forums have over those services is a hierarchy of structure that is easy to navigate and search!

I agree though, it's a great concept for users to consolidate their various forum activities. It's to forums what Apple's Passport is to airline services.

I just wish the app could be customized more to define how your forums are presented.

It's not only that, it's also investigating and testing whether all goes well. If we figure out some content is broken due to that plugin we would have to rollback. Also how do we safely uninstall it in case we need to?

I am just not 100% sure it would be a good decision to go down that road. I would need to hear more voices that would prefer Tapatalk over current mobile version of our forum.

I do appreciate your suggestion and I want the best for you guys, but I am not convinced this is the best.

"how do we safely uninstall it in case we need to"
last I checked, it's 3-4 actual files, you simply uninstall them

"prefer tapatalk over our current mobile version of our forum"
it's not a this or that, it's this AND that, the mobile version of the forum stays put and doesn't change, tapatalk simply gives a different way to access it, similar to changing to a different browser, if that makes more sense?

I appreciate that you're responding and discussing with us, I couldn't possibly ask for more...

(as for wanting the best for us all, I'm glad, that's the mentality that keeps you always looking from multiple angles and seeing if something would be a better option and could be incorporated, thanks!)
